- What is the difference between an English exemption for a master's degree and an English exemption for a bachelor's degree?
An English exemption for a bachelor's degree is granted by obtaining a score of 134 or higher on the Psychometric English section (or an equivalent test, such as the AMIR or AMIRAM exam), or by successfully completing the Advanced B English course.
An English exemption for a master's degree is granted by obtaining an exemption score on the English Placement Test administered by the English as a Foreign Language Unit, or by successfully completing one of the master's English courses (M2, M4, or M) with a passing grade (75).
- If I received an English exemption during my bachelor's degree by completing English courses, am I automatically exempt from the English requirement as a master's student?
No. There are no automatic exemptions. Your placement test results will determine whether you receive an exemption or are assigned to the English course most appropriate for your level.
- If I received an English exemption during my bachelor's degree based on the Psychometric exam, the AMIR exam, or the AMIRAM exam, am I exempt from the English requirement as a master's student?
You are exempt on this basis only if you are enrolled in a non-thesis track and the qualifying score was obtained within the past 10 years.
- Does a grade of 85 in the Advanced B English course during my bachelor's degree exempt me from taking an English course during my master's studies?
No. A grade in the Advanced B course does not exempt you from the English as a Foreign Language requirement for a master's degree. You may receive an exemption only by achieving an exemption score on the master's placement test or by successfully completing a master's English course.
- Does it matter, for placement test purposes, whether my bachelor's degree was from a college or a university?
No. All master's students who are not eligible for an exemption on other grounds, regardless of the institution where they completed their bachelor's degree, are required to take the placement test to determine whether they qualify for an exemption or to establish their English level and placement in the appropriate course.
- How do I register for the placement test?
Registration is completed by submitting a request through the Inbar system.
- If my job requires me to use English every day, am I exempt from the English requirement as a master's student?
If your English proficiency is sufficient, you can demonstrate it by taking the placement test and receiving an exemption.
Automatic exemptions are granted only in accordance with the university's exemption regulations.
