Placement Exam: General Information

Who is the examination for?

According to the university regulations, each academic department determines its own foreign language requirements for students and publishes these requirements in its departmental regulations.

Before registering for the placement examination, students should verify with their department whether they are required to fulfill the English as a Foreign Language requirement for the master's program in their specific department, specialization, and degree track.

Please note: Once online registration has been completed, registration fees cannot be refunded or transferred to another examination date, except in exceptional circumstances and subject to appropriate documentation (e.g. prolonged illness, hospitalization, pregnancy-related bed rest, childbirth, bereavement, or military reserve emergency service [Tzav 8]).

Students are encouraged to check whether they qualify for an exemption under the Master's Degree English Exemption Regulations. 

Applicants who have not yet been admitted to a master's program at the university may choose whether or not to register for the examination at their own discretion.

Who is eligible to take the examination?

Only the following individuals are eligible to register for and take the examination:

• Students who are currently enrolled in a master's degree program 
• Applicants who have applied for admission to a master's program for the upcoming academic year and have received confirmation from the university that their application has been received and entered into the university system. (This confirmation is recorded automatically in the university system; there is no need to submit a manual confirmation.)

A student is entitled to take the examination only once within a three-year period.

Please note: The number of places is limited, and registration may close before the published deadline once capacity has been reached.

What is the examination fee?

How do I register for the examination?

Registration is completed through the Inbar system using your ID number and password. (For assistance with login problems, contact the Help Desk at *9392.)

Navigation within Inbar:

Inbar → Requests and Authorizations → Submit a Request → Category: English Placement Tests → Master's Degree Placement Test.

New applicants: Please change the academic year (top right corner of the screen) to the relevant academic year.

Mobile phone users: Rotate your phone to landscape orientation to display the full menu.

Students currently on a leave of absence: These students must pay the required advance payment for renewing their studies before paying for and registering for the examination. The system will not accept registrations from students who have not paid the required advance payment.

Where is the examination held?

The examination location will be sent to your email by the Examinations Office one day before the examination.

How long is the examination?

Two hours

What should I bring to the examination?

• Writing materials 
• A dictionary/electronic dictionary 
• A valid form of identification 

Which dictionaries are permitted?

You may use dictionaries in any language, including electronic dictionaries, provided they do not make noise.

The following devices are not permitted:

• Quicktionary  
• Kareem  
• Any device that connects to the Internet 

How do I receive testing accommodations?

Special accommodations are available for the Master's English Placement Examination.

To arrange accommodations, contact the Office of Student Support and Accessibility. Please note that if approval for accommodations is not received before registration closes, you will need to register for the next examination date.

When and where will the results (exemption / placement level) be published?

Results will be published between five days and two weeks after the examination.

To view your placement level in the Inbar system:

1. Log in using your ID number and password (for login assistance, contact the Help Desk at *9392). 
2. From the menu on the right, select "Applicant" → "Applicant Information." 

New applicants: Please change the academic year (top right corner) to the relevant academic year.

Can I appeal my result?

According to university regulations, you may appeal your examination result within one week of its publication by email.

Please note that the appeal process may result in your placement level being raised or lowered.
